I have bought a 7970 gigabyte windforce but found out that its voltage locked so I am returning it tomorrow. I also happened to find a seemingly good deal on an EVGA GTX 670 FTW for £260 inc. AC3 + F2P bundle and free postage. Should I buy that, or am I better off buying another 7970 for roughly £300?
Or alternatively, should I wait for the new series to come out? I'm not really in a rush.

This is my first pc build btw.

EDIT* Also I forgot to add, would the 7970 be more futureproof with 3gb VRAM? I'm hoping I don't have to upgrade for like 3-4 years (time i'm at uni). I know this sounds stupid but I think the EVGA GTX 670 FTW looks better, aesthetically that is, and from what I''ve heard NVIDIA are the bee's knees. Would it be completely illogical to not go with the 7970 in terms of performance?

yeah i have a 7970 gigabyte windforce

they have been voltage locking the newer pcb revisions without mentioning it

still a very good card but the sites selling them should be made to say its voltage locked

the version 1 pcb isnt locked--black pcb instead of blue

Yeah that EVGA 670 FTW is hard to beat at that price. It basically performs as well as a GTX 680, which is matched by the 7970Ghz that costs at least $50 more than 670 FTW.

Performance has been discussed in an older thread:

What about the vram situation, would the 7970 last longer, if new games require more than 2gb vram, or should GTX670 still be ok?

More vram helps to cut the loss in frames when the game uses very large (HD) textures, as is the case with a heavily modded Skyrim. It also helps when you play on very large resolution screens. Most modern games don't even come close to filling 2GB of vram so assuming your monitor is a 1080p or 1920x1200, there's not much you could gain out of the extra 1GB on the 7970.
