Hello, first of all, I would like to apologise if this doesn't belong in the Windows 7 section.

Basically, I updated all of my motherboard drivers yesterday, including the audio driver (Realtek HD Audio driver or something). My motherboard is a Gigabyte Z77-DS3H. After installing this driver, no sound was playing. So I opened the playback devices tab and checked it out. There is a "Speakers" device here which works fine, but this is my headset. The other device is "Realtek HDMI Output" which is my monitor. This does not work and it just says "Not plugged in" even though my monitor has built in speakers which worked fine before the driver.

I really want to be able to play sound from my monitor again, because it's annoying to have to listen to everything with a headset on.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Make sure the HDMI is set as primary audio output device.
