I recently completed a new build (Windows 7, SP1) using an MSI R7850 Twin Frozr display card (OC Edition). As with the system I was replacing (also Win7), I have dual displays connected to the card. In the old build, both displays worked perfectly. With the new build, the primary monitor (Dell 2007FPb, 1600 x 1200 @ 60 Hz) displays fine at boot-up but quickly begins to show artifacts in the form of horizontal blue lines moving rapidly from left to right across the display. Within a few minutes, the display is filled with blue lines. Soon thereafter, the display does one of two things: (1) goes black except for the message "Out of range signal, cannot display this video mode, changed display input to 1600 x 1200 @ 60 Hz", or (2) gives "Entering power save" message, goes black for several seconds, and then restarts without the display artifacts. Once the 1600 x 1200 resolution displays without artifacts, for the remainder of the day the display is flawless. The next morning when I start the computer, the display artifacts appear again.
I've tried the following to fix this: (1) switched the display cables (DVI) between the two monitors, (2) moved the display card to the PCI-Ex8 slot (from the x16 slot) to determine if this was a problem with the x16 slot, and (3) reinstalled the monitor driver. None of these efforts has gotten rid of the artifacts. In addition, Device Manager indicates that the monitor and motherboard drivers are up to date.
I'd really appreciate any suggestions on how to resolve this.
