Yes, it is upgradable. But you will probably need to upgrade your PSU as well to be able to handle a new card. And your CPU too, to avoid bottlenecks.

Thanks auntarie, but I am a complete computer novice. Would it be more worthwhile to buy a new computer? The one I have only cost £500.

If you have the money, yes, it would be better to buy a new machine. From what I understand your current PC is pretty old and it would take even more money to upgrade the rest of your components.
