Installed Ubuntu instead of Lubuntu 12.10. This machine is a low end intel Celeron M processor. Did the install wth Linux Live USB. I now find that, in spite of the BIOS setting to seek the USB drive first the system goes to the Ubuntu install. Looking for something that would allow me to format the netbook drive through a USB drive. Guidance sought

Much thanks for your timely reply. Yes... the most current version of Ubuntu went to completion. Realized my error and put Lubuntu 12.10 ISO on the USB drive. Confirmed in the BIOS that the USB was the first up. I don't know if it has anything to do with it but this is a solid state drive and I have experienced this before. I did notice that the solution was to simply wait a few days and the BIOS options would work. I posted because I am complete novice with GNU Grub and thought there might be a command line entry that would get me to the USB drive.

Unetbootin and SystemRescueCD should do the trick. t/

You can either download SysRescCD from sourceforge or use the pre-downloaded ISO of SystemRescueCD provided through Unetbootin (this is easiest).

Once installed via Unetbootin onto a small blank USB stick, boot to it, let SysRescCD do its thing by hitting <Enter> a few times until reaching the multi-colored prompt. There, issue the command
Code:
startx
which brings up xfce and a yellow-colored window box with another prompt. Type the command
Code:
gparted
Should you not know how to use gparted, I suggest perusing this manual. Formatting is just one of the many things SysRescCD allows the user to do.
