Hi,
I connected WD Black Cavier WD1002FAEX 1TB disk to ASUS P8Z77 V-Pro, and tried a fresh install of Windows 7. But BIOS fails to identify the Hard disk to install in it.

Have tried connecting to different SATA ports yet the same problem.

Still when connected the same HDD to other system it is able to detect the drive in BIOS.

Please guide me.
Thanks in advance.

In the BIOS, in my Asus Z77 board's BIOS, in the advanced settings - advanced tab - SATA configuration - SATA mode selection, make sure it is set to "AHCI".

Does your DVD drive show up in BIOS? If so, try running the Windows setup anyway just to see if the hard drive is showing up there. Sometimes it won't show up in BIOS but it will still be detected by Windows setup.

Try using the black SATA I ports even though it is SATA 6.0 GB/s.

Do you have L-shaped SATA cables? I don't know for sure if it matters, but make sure the L-shaped side is in the drive and the flat side is in the motherboard.

If all else fails, try updating the BIOS by downloading the file from your other PC and using a USB stick. That should really be a last resort.

Tried all possibility and finally found out that the WD HDD had a problem. It was detected on other mobos but had 0.0MB space . I got it replaced by my retailer and the new HDD is all good.

I would suggest to double check HDD first.

I had this (annoying) issue. I got in working in the end by performing these steps:

1) Update the bios to the latest using the ASUS EZ-FLASH utility. Follow the steps fully and carefully...
2) Removed my drive letter and activated the partition (I had one large partition on this drive)
3) Within "Boot" BIOS section
a) Enter CSM (Compatibility Support Module)
b) Select "Enabled" for Launch CSM
c) Then select these sub-options:
"UEFI and Legacy OpROm"
"Legacy OpRom First"
"Legacy OpRom First"
"Legacy OpRom First"

4) Under "Advanced" BIOS section
Select "AHCI" for SATA Mode Selection

Hope this helps!
