I installed a clean install of Windows 7 Home premium from XP and then upgraded that to Windows 7 Pro. I copied all the files (.docs, .xls, etc. etc.) i needed to keep onto an external Seagate Hard Drive. I've reinstalled office 2007.

When i dragged a copy of the files onto my desktop and try to open a file, i am getting a message reading:

"Windows cannot locate the file, to locate it yourself click browse."

Then when i try to locate any of the files it says:

"The item "***" that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly."

Is there a fix for this?

I need to get those files opening properly, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

No i can't, i tried accessing them directly off the hard drive on another computer too and i get the same error. Happens for both files and folders.
