Best bang for buck! 680? Please put my mind at peace guys

Alright I've been looking at gpu's through hell and high water for about 2-3 hours - period. I look at these numbers and stats on the benchmarks and honestly, I can't read them, I mean I have no idea what these wacky resolutions are.

So this brings a few questions to mind, but those aside the ONE question that is a real pet peeve is this;

IS a gtx 680 future proof? It is kind of a blunt question, I get that. I mean I play on 1920x1080p, that is it. Do not ever intend on getting 3 monitors so please look at the question from that aspect.

True or false? "By summer 2014 a gtx 680 is still going to be crushing games in 1920x1080p". That is more or less what I wanna know. Another thing is the titan, I was looking into these and then I asked myself 'is there any point WHATSOEVER in getting one of these for using just one monitor?'

So would I be right to believe I would be getting the same fps on 1 monitor with the 680 and titan in the respect that both would be over 60fps?

Anyway I'll leave it at that, for those of you who've been bothered to read the story-worth of writing above, cheers answered would be obliged.

First off the Titan (why not), I would only get it if I was using 2560x1440 and above beacause of the 6gb memory. The 680 is only like 7% (last time I checked) faster than a 670 but costs more. I would get a 670 and overclock it to 680 speeds. There is NO WAY to tell what will happen in the future or if any graphics card will still perform well in a certain time period in the future. As long as you play the same games and will forever use a single 1080p monitor then the 680 will future proof forever. If you will be constantly playing the newest titles at maximum settings then I don't think it will be very future proof.

That is the kind of reply I was looking for ;) so it would be right in thinking there is no point in getting a titan for one monitor because it would just be to overkill? At the same time though I guess it would just annihilate anything at 1080p whereas the 680 would struggle I guess? On a side note would a 670/680 be on par or ahead of the next gen consoles that are coming out do you guys think?

I agree with completelyrandomname. Also, the Titan is better when scaling with SLI setups. If you want a single GPU solution you would be better off with a 690 rather then a Titan. Now that we're past that. 670 is a more cost effective choice over the 680. My guess is, a 670 or 680 will do fairly well next summer (2014) but sometime around Q4 of 2013 we're supposed to be getting the next generation of GPUs. Its possible they may not release until Q1 of 2014 but we still don't know a lot about them yet. Rumor is they won't be significantly faster over the current generation, and they'll mainly be focusing on using less power. Who knows though? Also you have to keep in mind graphic technologies are always improving and the current generation cards may not be supported. I think its impossible to really future proof a GPU, but as completelyrandomname said, "As long as you play the same games and will forever use a single 1080p monitor then the 680 will future proof forever."

I hope that helps, and good luck!

Any high end PC will do just as well, if not better, then the next generation of consoles.

Thanks chaps, especially for the 690 > the titan tip, did not knows about that one. I would get one but they're what £800? and I don't think they would come down anymore than that by may (2013) but who knows I can always hope - you guys heard anything about them reducing the price? Im not sure how that works ahah.

But for games like world of warcraft, yeah what is the point in buying a £800 card. It is just for battlefield 4 and those kind of games I wanted to be able to be playing that at max with ultra settings. I don't think that a 680's gonna be able to meet that but who knows, only benchmarks can tell but I do not think there are any out for it so far :(

Yeah, like I said the Single 690 > Single Titan.... SLI'ed Titans > SLI'ed 690s

You're pretty much right on. That's the deal for now. Really difficult to future proof computers, especially when it comes to GPUs. 670s are a great price/performance Nvidia card. One approach you could take is grab a 670 and upgrade next year if the bench marks warrant it and sell the 670. Or you could always SLI 670s in the future. What I suggest to people is try not to worry so much about future proofing, but instead look at your upgrade path.
