Hi,

This request is linked with a problem i have had with a pair of Corsair 5GB RAM Modules.

One of the sollutions that came forward on this forum was to ensure my BIOS was upto date.

I have a Foxconn P55S motherboard and the BIOS is AMI.

I am trying to upgrade the BIOS from start up as Foxconn Live Update does not work.

So far i have created a bootable USB.

On the USB i have AFUDOS and the updated BIOS file in ROM format from the Foxconn website, BIOS P06.

When i run the USB at start itype in

AFUDOS ******.ROM (FILE NAME) /P /B /C /N

I then get an error stating "file rom if incorrect.

I have been trying to figure this out most of the day without success.

Any help or pointers appreciated.

Regards

Simon

The *****'s have to be replaced with the file name.

So if you are flashing lets say p06.rom you would do

AFUDOS p06.ROM /P /B /C /N

Now the real question. How in the world did you get a 5gigabyt stick or ram? I never seen those in my life(4 and 8 yes, 5 no).

Guys,

Sorry typ on the 5GB of RAM its 2 * 4GB sticks.

Re the BIOS file name i did exactly as you state and i get the error file rom incorrect.

Sounds as though i am doing everything i should !

Its been a bit since I flashed the old fashioned way(always used the board built in bios flashing from the bios it self). could you try AFUDOS.exe filename.ROM(it may be afudos /filename.rom as well) and see what happens.

If the name is too long dos also has 8.3 names 8 characters long then the 3 character extension. Using the DIR command you can see the exact file names as dos sees them.

I am back again determined to get this RAM issue resolved.

I have now obtained an identical set of 2GB RAM (2 X 2GB) that match the RAM I had in my PC when I purchased it (I know I cannot guarantee exact match if I do not buy as a pair).

So now I have 4 banks of 2GB RAM all 1333mhz and all same manufacturer and part number.

Tested with 6GB all okay and PC runs fine.

Tested with 8GB and blue screen of death again when I load a gam, although pc does recognise the full 8GB now.

This is identical to the issue I had with the Corsair RAM, crashing anything over 6GB.

So im going to get the BIOS updated despite my local PC shop declaring WW3 will break out if I do this.

I have contacted my motherboard manufacturer Foxconn and I have the update I need.

I have the ME jumpers on 2-3 pin and I ran the BIN file as follows

fpt - f ****** (I inserted my bios number to update).rom -y

I got an error in red saying "protected range register"

Anybody have any ideas what this means.

Im getting closer to flashing this BIOS.

Hi :)

No, you are getting closer to bricking your motherboard....I agree with your local shop.....maybe because I also run computer shops and see too many boards bricked by bad bios flashes,,,,

There are some machines that just will NOT take as much ram as they should...its just a fact of life....

The difference between 6 and 8 gb is not worth the risk to your motherboard to be honest...

All the best Brett :)

All,

BIOS flashed and ram now working fine with 8GB.

Was a problem with my Foxconn motherboard as suggested by many.

Update sorted the memory issue and everything running fine.
