hello i just changed from a stock cooler to the hyper 12 evo and it idles at around 35-37 *C and goes up to 50*C when stress testing with prime 95. those are the same temps that i had with my old stock cooler, shouldnt they be lower

Consider Brett's advice.

Hyper 212 evo is nice cooler and temps should be lower than on your stock cooler. Maybe you did not installed it properly. It is possible that you have put too much thermal paste. It is possible that that is running on 50% during load since 50* is not high temp so he does not need full speed.

thanks it went down like 1*C when i took the side of my case off lol. im just worried that if i overclock it slightly that it will get to hot when under load

what kind of thermal compound did you use?

have you adjusted the fan speed?
If you set it to 100% all the time, it will be very audible, but those temps should be lower. It will run on an "auto" setting by default and the PC will keep it cool enough with the least amount of fan speed, keeping it quiet longer.
