I'm going to be building this computer sometime during the summer. I'm asking if everything will fit and run smoothly in the build. I fear that the two graphics card will cover the PCI express 1.0 slots.

Build
CPU: Intel Core I7 3770k
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i
GPU: 2x Gigabyte AMD 7970 OC GHz edition
PSU: Cooler Master Silent Pro M 1000W
MoBo: Asus Sabertooth z77 LGA 1155 (You may recommend another board about the same price)
Ram: Corsair Vengeance 16 GB (2x8) DDR3 1600 MHz
Case: Thermaltake Overseer RX-I
SSD: Samsung 840 250 GB
HDD: Western Digital 2tb black caviar
Other: 1) Avermedia Live Gamer HD
2) Asus Wifi Card (PCI express 1)
3) Asus 24xDVD-RW
4) Razer Death Stalker Expert keyboard

I'll be buying all of this on amazon.
I want to be able to record gameplay, render videos to upload on youtube, play game like crysis 3, arma 3, The war z, Bioshock, etc. This computer is suppose to multitask as i'll have one game open, teamspeak 3, skype, etc.

Solution
Yeah that will fit those cards no problem.

On the pricing: The two 7970's are 860 today (I am assuming you have amazon prime and wont pay shipping). The 690 is 999.0 on amazon- meaning you need 140 right?

PSU:Cooler Master Silent Pro M 1000W@173.37. If you went with the 690 you could get this instead:

OCZ-ZT750W@79.99 saving you about 93 dollars.

CPU: You have the i7-3770k, which is way OP for gaming @324.98.

Instead get this: i5-3570k@ 219.99- saving you about 100 dollars.

There you go...just by switching out a few components for some more practical to your build we got you the 140 plus a bit more. The amount of video rendering you will be doing IMO does not warrant an i7.

A few things. First one good graphics card is always better than two weaker ones. Since you are starting out I would recommend get in the GTX 690 instead. It costs a bit more than your current setup but you can get the money from various ways:

The GTX 690 requires a minimum 650w power supply- so you can go down from 1000w to 650 or 700 and save a few bucks that way.

Are you just gaming? If so you can go down to 8gb of RAM and save another few bucks.

The other thing you can save money on if you are just gaming is by going down to a i5-3570k as an i7 is unnecessary for gaming.

I guess I should include what I want to do with the computer. I want to play crysis 3, arma 3, etc. I will be recording video, rendering video, and as for the GTX 690. Im not a big fan of nvidia plus i get crysis 3 and bioshock with the purchase of the amd 7970s.

That promotion ended yesterday. If you are buying this summer it will most likely be different games.

As far as not liking NVIDIA goes...again one better card is ALWAYS better than two. Not only that but crossfireX encounters some problems- I crossfire and I dont notice but as far as benchmarking goes its still advisable to get one card instead of two.

If you dont believe me read this article Tomshardware just posted a few days ago on crossfire vs. SLI:

I understand but I'm already squeezing out every dollar I have. If the GTX 690 is cheeper by the summer time i guess ill get it. I still need my question answered thou will everything in the build fit with the two cards.

The Sabertooth is not a good choice. It's overrated, expensive, and the thermal armor traps more heat than it's supposed to prevent. It's not at all worth the $100 premium.

Also drop the H100i in favor of a Noctua D14 - much better cooler for the price. It's huge but it's currently the reigning king of heat sinks.

You also don't really need an i7 for your uses, you could drop that and save money elsewhere.

The Samsung 840 is a solid SSD but better would be to get the OCZ Vector.

The 7970's are going to be better than what Nvidia has weather you choose to go Crossfire or no Crossfire you will still have a better card than what Nvidia can offer. Plus the GTX 690 is really 2 GPU's in SLI so even though you would be only plugging one card in it is still the same as running 2 GPU's.

The Devil13 is the same way it is really just a Crossfire setup in one card so it takes up only one slot but any problems that might come up in a crossfire setup would still be there plus it is way to much money and you could buy two cards for less than one of those.

Hi :)

No crossfire problems at all with any of the Devils I own.....

It takes THREE pci slot spaces though...

To the OP...they are around on sale...just hunt for them....

All the best Brett :)

I've heard lots of good review of the sabertooth. Its worth the money lots of people said and its good for its price. The cooler, The h100i is easier to work with in my opinion. I know i don't need the i7 and i could get an i5 but the i7 is good for rendering isn't. OCZ vector is great and thats gonna be the SSD I get when i want to upgrade from 250 gb SSD to 500 gb. Thanks for the information and if the prices on some things go down by the summer. I'll take a look at all of them.

I guess that does work but will i be able to overclock everything with the power supply. I wanted to overclock the crap out of everything which is why i was going for the 1000w and i've hurd its quite so it you wouldn't hear it when im recording commentaries

With a 750w power supply you will be more than able to overclock a 690. The minimum requirement for the 690 is a 650w (info I got off the specs on amazon). With 750w you will be 100w over the minimum- and usually the GPU makers overstate what is a minimum so 650 would probably even be enough to OC.

But just to be on the save side (I am quite paranoid) I would go with the 750w.

The only 7990 that's out is the Power Color Devil 13, and that's not even a real 7990. It's like the GTX 690 to the Titan. The 690 is dual processors on one card. The Titan is a single processor GPU. The Devil 13 is a dual processor GPU. I've heard reports that the single processor 7990 is going to be released shortly but I haven't seen anything official from AMD yet.

Hold up hold up. don't go suggesting him 690s and such. AMD has revealed it's reference 7990, and it's two 7970 ghz edition cards. not under-clocked GPUs like the 690, these are running at 1050 mhz base clocks. it'll perform better than either the 690 or the titan, it only takes two slots, and will be released soon. It's basically an ARES II that's not a limited edition run or watercooled (and significantly cheaper.)

Whoa, I'm not saying go out and buy a 690 - there was mention of the 7990 which like I said isn't a real 7990. There's supposed to be a single, Titan-equivalent 7990 in the works but when that's going to be released is anyone's guess.

Thanks for everything but, im gonna stay with the two 7970s as they out perform the 690 and a lot of people say that there are some issues with the 690 and certain games they need to do stuff in order for it to work. Ill keep the same processor as i do think ill need the processing power because i want to be able to play a game and render a video at the same time. It might be overkill now but its future proof as well.

Could anyone recommend another motherboard about the same price as the sabertooth. Amazon doesn't seem to restock. It must have at least 4x usb 2.0 and 2x usb 3.0 along 2x usb 2.0 and 2x usb 3.0 for the front part of the case.

oooh. playing a game and rendering at the same time? you definitely want the 3770K. maybe even a 3930x (6 threads w/hyper threading, so 12 virtual cores) it's nearly 550 USD, but it's a beast at threaded applications. you can still get a 7990, but the other parts will be a bit more limited.

Cheaper than the Sabertooth, no plastic armor to deal with, and you get Thunderbolt.
