I started installing an asrock z77 extreme4 board today in my cheap thermaltake v3 black edition case and ran into a problem. Add far add I can tell the mounting holes on the right side of the motherboard are a few inches from the edge. When I go to install my ram, the board started bending because there is no support on that side of the board.

Is this normal our am I missing something? This is only my second build in 4 years so I feel like I'm just dumb and forgot to do something. Is the ram just supposed to be installed before you put the mb into the case?

Thanks for helping a noob builder...

Sometimes you may have to add some(or take away) of the hex standoffs for the mobo - did the case come with extras. Is there a hole in the chassis that would fit your purpose? Cases are made to handle a wide variety of standard mobo sizes.

I generally suggest you install the RAM before you insert the MOBO into your case. It is also pretty normal for it to bend considering the pressure that is needed to install some RAM sticks, so as long as it is not bending an extreme amount then I wouldn't be too worried about it.

I have the same board and it is not a full atx board and that is why the mounting holes don't line up to the case. When i put in my ram I placed part of my finger under the edge of the board to stop it from bending as much.

Alright I'll have to take a look. The case did come with a few odds and ends so maybe one of them will fit it. To get the ram in I did what kardon did and just supported the board with my fingertips under it to hold it up. It just seemed odd to me. Thanks for the help!
