So i recently bought a 2560x1600 monitor which only used dual link DVI. Sadly my MSI lightning does not support dual link dvi but would force me to buy a 100 dollar adapter to make my monitor work. Instead of spending 100 dollars on a stupid adapter I end up buying the Sapphire Vapor X 6gb edition which supports the Dual Link DVI with intensions to sli them till the MSI Sells. I know I prolly wont be needing the 6gb version but I figure it wont hurt Since I normally have 4 monitors connected even though only gaming on the main 2560x1600.

So i posted my MSI Lightning and it Sold quickly lol and i wont get to test the crossfire. So I will be making my purchase price back and a little profit. But I am having some second thoughts about keeping it and running both in crossfire.

Anyone feel that its worth it to run crossfire?

Solution
Well, once you sold it, its sold(or should be as said above.)

As long as your performance is acceptable you should be ok with the single card. Crossfire drivers and profiles do improve over time.

and WOW 6gigabytes of memory on the video card.

I used to do eyefinity back in the days but I didnt like it for various reasons so I changed to having one large main monitor.

my main is 30 inch 2650x1600
27inch 1080x1920 in vertical mode for viewing. Only way to make it fit in my 3 monitor stand lol.
24 inch walcom cintig drawing monitor 1920x1080
and I have my 47 inch tv connected for viewing streams and videos away from my desk.
and 23 inch 1920x1080 not really being used lol

yeah MSI made a weird decision on the 7970 lightning. On the 680 lightning it has a dual link dvi. The 7970 card can technically run eyefinity by itself with 4 mini DP but I need the dual link for my monitor. Only way to make it work is buying an Active Dual link to Mini DP adapter which runs from 90+ dollars.

luckily i still have my old 6870s which have been great in crossfire. So I have been able to use my monitor for the time being by using one of the 6870 but I can see the GPU struggling in games at 2560x1600.

I run crossfire and I like it. Sometimes you have to tweak things to get it to run smoothley (FC3 doesnt run so well with CF cards windowed- but runs perfectly fullscreen).

Anyway, I am assuming you sold it on ebay and it already sold. As I am an ebayer and would be pretty pissed if I bought a product and the person decided after I had already bought it they didn't want to sell it. Do the right thing and send the card to the purchaser and buy either another 7970 or 680 or 690.

HeHe I sold it on amazon today so i dont have time to ship it yet. My Sapphire Vapor X 7970 6gb will be here Thursday. I was hoping to try out Crossfire on 7970s but it sounds like there may be some issues that still need to be worked out. So maybe i will buy another 7970 in future when prices drop. Thanks

Yeah its pretty insane but they sure jack up the price for extra 3gb of ram lol
But from this review it does fairly well.

if you have not done anything yet as of now, i highly recommend getting the gtx 770 that just came out, its much cheaper than the 680 and its slightly more powerful right now the best deal imo
