Dell 1750 Inspiron new hard drive problem

The laptop didn't come with a Windows disk. We had scrupulously backed it up. Will these backups put Windows 7 on the new harddrive?

We used the back up utility and created 3 disks

Is it commonplace now not to get an OS disk? What I was given to understand is that the OS now resides on a sector of the Harddrive that can never be reformatted. So when a reformat is done, the OS is reloaded from that sector.

yes, they usually come with a recovery partition where you can reinstall the OS without needing a DVD.

Was it 3 DVDs? If so it will likely recover the PC to the state it was in when you purchased it.
