Install classic shell, and .... you basically have Windows 7.

My issue is that I want to use AutoCAD 2010 and it will not install on Windows 8.

Will Classic Shell allow ACAD 2010 installation?

Why won't it install? What specific error messages did you get?

Classic Shell does not really alter any of the underlying Win8 stuff. It just puts a different skin on it.

AutoCAD issues a message similar to "Unable to install on this OS". There are no options to consider, it simply will not proceed.

Well then, Win8 is a no go. Classic Shell will not fix that.
Might it be a case of Windows 8 vs Windows 8 Pro or Enterprise? Many high end applications will not install on the home versions of the OS, or the 32 vs 64bit versions.

From Autodesk:
"Note: Unless indicated otherwise, this information applies to the 2013-2011 versions of all Autodesk products. Autodesk product versions of 2010 and earlier are no longer supported and are not included in considerations of Windows 8 compatibility."

Software not being able to install on home vs pro/ent/ult is completely false.

Thanks for the replies guys, or girls. This site is a great resource.

Lenovo has told me that with a "clean install" I can wipe Win 8 and install Win 7.

I was also told that if I had Windows 8 Pro the reversion would be simpler. I'm wondering about the option of upgrading to Win 8 Pro, then via Lenovo change to Win 7. Or buying Win 7 and reinstalling the OS on my computer.

I feel like I paid for Win 8, so I don't want to lose the license or capability to potentially reinstall it.

OK...go ahead and install MS ForeFront Security on Win7 Home basic.
Or crank up an Exchange server on Vista Home.
Or put MS Windows Defender on Server 2008.

You 'might' be able to get it there, but it is a non supported configuration.
