hi

pretty much yesterday my pc made a disturbing noise so i switched it off( sounded like something went wrong with a fan)

Now when i play games the environment will flicker like lights dancing across the screen then the monitor goes black for a few seconds.

i downloaded asus gpu tweak to take a look at what was happening and as far as i can tell everything skyrockets at the point of glitchyness and blackout. For example the temp goes up to 85c + on the gpu as does the gpu clock mhz, memory clock mhz and power target status %.

im saying all this because i dont no if its important or not.

my cpu stays at around 55-60c.

when it reloads i get a notice that says "display driver stopped responding and has recovered. and under that display driver nvidia windows kernal mode driver, version 311.06 stopped responding and has successfully recovered.
i tried using an older driver but it did nothing.
i have tried cleaning everything and put it back together again and still it happens i tried putting the fans to max and playing with the side open and agin it still happens.

i am thinking it is a hardware issue tho i am no expert.

my specs are

OS windows 7 (64-bit) professional

intel(R) core(TM) i7-3770 cpu @ 3.40GHz 3.90GHz

i have 16gb ram

and GeForce GTX 660 on GK106 GPU

i do no overclocking as i dont no how.

sorry for the long essay and any and all spelling/grammer mistakes.

any help would be great and i would really appreciate it.

many thanks

Kane

I believe the Nvidia control panel will let you see what the speeds are set at.

Yes I do think the heatsink could be the problem. Overclocking and overheating are teh same thing: too much heat to the GPU. You may have luck reducing the speed of the GPU if nothing else works.

Display driver stopped is usually associated with too high an overclock. It could also be lack of ventilation in your case, causing the temps to get too high. Or the seating of the heatsink on the GPU is not good. Or the card is bad.

hi

thanks for the reply i haven't ever touched the settings of it so i dont believe it is overclocked tho if you or anyone can tell me how to check that would be awesome. i checked the ventilation and played with the case open so again i dont think it is that.

maybe the heatsink or the card has some how become broken?

hey

I haven't been able to find anything wrong with the speed so i think the best thing will be to take the card back as its under 4 months old.

thanks for the help tho

many thanks
