Hello, I would like to know if the Sapphire HD 7970 OC with boost (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202008) featuring 1 HDMI port, 1 DIsplayPort and 2 x DVI (1 Single Link, 1 Dual Link) could be connected to the monitors this way, without needing the DisplayPort:

-Card -->DVI-D port --> DVI-D monitor
-Card -->DVI-I port --> DVI-D monitor
-Card --> HDMI port --> HDMI monitor

I read that with Eyefinity you have to have at least 1 connected via DisplayPort. But I was wondering if it was really necessary with this configuration.
The bundle coming with the card doesn't even has a DSP adapter...

Thanks in advance.

Not sure on the eyefinity setup part but be aware that by running on hdmi you will be forced to 60hz. Wasn't sure on whether or not your monitors support 120hz or higher but if its anything like nvidia surround then it will auto force your whole setup down to 60hz.

I haven't seen any graphics card or monitor come with displayport cables yet. Probably charge an extra 200$ on the monitor cost just to give you the cable. When i bought my 144hz asus monitors 2 weeks ago they came with single link dvi cable. So now i have around 15 single link dvi cables and i had to go out and buy the dual links to get the refresh rate i bought them for in the first place...

When using eyefinity on a single video card anything over 2 monitors requires the use of a display port. So with 3 monitors you need 1 to use the displayport, if none of the monitors have a display port you need to use an active adapter(http://www.amazon.com/HIS-HDPSDVIEYE-DisplayPort-Adapter-Eyefinity-Ready/dp/B00439G3NW/ref=pd_sim_sbs_e_9).

Wow, that's must have been a real nuisance, but I see what you mean.
Maybe I'll just go with only two monitors if I'm forced to look for other pricy cables and adapters...

Edit: THank you bignastyid, just what I was fearing, ahah. I'll see what to do now. Thank you all for the help.

displayport cables i've seen usually in around the 30$ CDN range in around where i live but they could be more or less depending where you live.

edit: the 200$ i mentioned above was just me being a bit sarcastic on the fact that usually when they include something in a bundle they tend to mark the price up. I never meant thats what the cables actually cost. Sorry for any confusion.

Here's the newegg description for that monitor

Featuring DisplayPort, Dual-link DVI-D, and HDMI ports for multi device connections

And this is what is supposed to come in the box:

Accessories
Dual-link DVI cable
VGA cable
Audio cable
Power cord
Quick start guide
Warranty Card

I bought a load of VG236H's and they all came with the proper dual link cables. I'd go back to the shop and demand the cables.

No don't worry, I got you and well, 30$ still qualify as a pricy accessory to me!
Maybe I found a solution, a different model of the card comes with a "Mini Display Port to SL-DVI Active dongle" in the bundle, would that be of use in my situation?

I have the VG248QE though JackNaylorPE. And perhaps someone was packaging wrong or something because all of 3 of mine came with the single link cable. That dongle sounds like what you need since i believe amd uses the mini displayports instead of full size. Just note though that the Single link will work fine just only at 60hz as well but since you don't have any 120hz i don't see any problems with it.

I just bought this for the same reason from monoprice.com -
http://www.monoprice.com/Product?p_id=6014&seq=1&format=2

$7 for the same thing that amazon and newegg want $20+ for.
