Proposed $ 2500 Business/Gaming Build

This is the new build I am considering. I am a first time builder.

1. Approximate Purchase Date: June 1, 2013
2. Budget Range: $ 2,500 - $ 3,000
3. System Usage (Most to Least Important)
a. Business – Engineering/Marketing Consulting Company

Your psu is a little overkill 850W is enough for dual SLI over 1000W is usually for 3 or more SLI. Also 32Gb of Ram is overkill, 8Gb is enough for most uses.

Looks good! It looks like you've done extensive research. The only thing I can say to save some money is to go with the non thunderbolt MB unless you use that feature ALOT. Also if you don't care about the look of your case, you can definitely go with a cheaper case.

To the poster above me...I think that he needs the higher RAM...engineering software such as CAD, 3dmax etc all require extensive CPU and RAM usage.

You are correct extensive CAD work and modeling.

RAID 1 configurations on Program and Data drives are to keep the system up and running.

Also - Thunderbolt version of ASUS P8Z77-V Pro is only about $ 30 more so why not who knows it may take off.

Today is April 1st.
Secondly your main priorities are security, reliability and performance. These three point to a safer work environment than what you can get with your built unless you keep the array of drives(which you have). I would look into purchasing a workstation. It will give you a safer environment with ECC. With your budget, if gaming is also important I would build it around Sandy Bridge E processor such as 3930K- six cores, 12 hyper threading or just wait for the Haswell processor that will increase overclocking potential with some borrowed features from sandy e bridge and ivy bridge plus extras. If you can spend ~$3,500 or even $4000 you can afford a supersized I-mac or HP Workstation. Either way enjoy the monster performance

He can go with a cheaper GPU if needed. Please note, "cheaper" has a negative connotation on it. Quite the contrary in this case since an overclocked 670 SLI setup will mostly outperform a 680.

However, it seems the OP does not want to do any sort of extensive overclocking or other mods so a 680 would, theoretically, make sense. The only reason to save utility is to use it on other goods to increase your happiness. If that same utility is slated for computer building purposes it makes sense to use it. In other words it makes sense to buy the 680.

(FYI Utility example is from microeconomics...very interesting topic)

I looked at the 670 as an alternative, but the reviews on Amazon and New Egg seemed very negative, while the EVGA 680 got rave reviews. Yes, it is more expensive but looks like less trouble.

I the past I bought pre-built systems but I am fed up with bargain components and not room to upgrade. The case and PS, should last several generations. Which means a can swap out the CPU/GPU/memory/SSD/hard drives when they become worn or outdated.

Depends on which 670 you looked at? The reference model isn't that good and has its cons, whilst the ones from gigabyte, asus, etc are all very high performing GPU's.
