Pretty much the title, I was looking at the 800$ version of the Alienware X51 and think it would be a good PC to get started on that's around that price range. I would just like some opinions on it and whether there is something out there that is a better deal. or should I just build one myself however, never really tired to PC build before.

it's always better to build it yourself.
it's not a big deal, just watch a couple of guides on youtube. There is this really thorough guide from newegg , watch it a couple of times and you should be fine

No, no, no, no, a billion times no.

You can build yourself a beast for $800, not a shitty Alienware. Something along the lines of a 7870, Asrock Extreme 4, i5 3570k + plus HDD, a case you like the look of, 500w PSU, RAM comes to about that. Its pretty easy to slap a computer together once you know where everythin goes.

Moving on, you'll have to get a different case. That slimline Alien case will frustrate you in doing anything else with it.
The parts are not 'bad', just a little overpriced because they bear the name Alienware.

Neither TigerDirect/Newegg/Dell give any details about the motherboard. So you are at their mercy as to what it is and what features it brings.

For $800, you can build a much better system in an afternoon.
