I was wondering what the average people see transferring files to nas over 2x2 n, 5 Ghz, nas is plugged into gigabit port laptop is transferring over wifi, I get around 22 MBps (175mbps), wondering if thats's about the max? thinking about switching wifi card in laptop to 3x3n, my router is capable of it.

That is about what I have tested before and what many people get.

3x3 mimo will give you a bit more but not a lot maybe 25m. You are still trying to shove all the data into a 150m physical pipe. All mimo really does is intentionally transmit over the top of itself and hope it can figure it out. If you have very clean air with no other interference maybe but you get the slightest interference from another router and it degrade very quickly.

The only technology that promises faster is the 802.11ac. It starts with a 4 channel pipe at 400m and then runs mimo and such to get more. Problem is we really need to wait until the end of this year before the standard is final and all the manufactures start making product. There are very few nic cards and you run the risk like pre-n stuff of not being 100% compatible.

Rereading you post.. you won't be able to get 3x3 mimo on a laptop that is not designed from the start for it. It must have 3 actual antenna built in since you can't just add a antenna to a laptop

Thanks for the confirmation, I will probably switch it out for the 3x3 just because its only about $20, I can run an extra antenna through to the laptop screen where the first 2 are located. and wait for the mini pci ac adapter and new router at the end of the year. I think I should be ok with no interference because I'm only one of 2 router on the 5ghz band I can see using backtrack.
