I was going to sell my Acer Aspire 5253 laptop and did a DBAN on it and reinstalled Windows. I don't use it that much but it seemed to not have any problems before.

I reinstalled Windows and then I began getting HDD failure notices. I got CrystalDisk and it was about Reallocated Bad Sectors. But at the same time I started getting notice that my battery may be failing too.

The computer seems to be running okay but I'm wanting to make sure maybe there's not something about the BIOS or some kind of drivers that would cause issues since I'm not with the factory installation anymore.

Where are these messages about failure coming from? If you are getting bad sectors, I'd trash the drive and get another one. Battery is easy to test, charge it fully and see how long it will run playing a movie. A good older battery should run 1.5 to 2 hours under almost full load on a non-gaming laptop.
