Hi guys I currently have a very old Tagan TG480-U01 PSU and wondering if it will be able to power a Radeon 7870 and an AMD FX-6300.

Reading the power rating it has a +12V rail of 28a (336W). Also has a -12V Rail which is 1.0a (12W).

Will it be enough?

Thanks.

No I would not put the 7870 and the FX6300 on your old PSU.

It's rail is pretty limiting (though it should work fine in theory)

On full load your system would draw close to 300W (125W GPU + 170W System), too risky IMO

Also gives you no OC room

Also PSU's suffer capacitor wear and can output less and less of it's stated power as time goes on

I would grab this PSU on a budget

It could run the components but in my opinion, I think it would be cutting it close. FX-6300 is power hungry and with the 7870, I'd recommend at least a 550W power supply with 80+ Bronze certification. You're only paying an extra $70 after all.

It's also worth noting that you'll need two 6-pin connectors to power the GPU.

Hmm the 4870 actually draws about the same power as the 7870
So your PSU can still output pretty good despite it's age.

You could run it on your current PSU but there is an measure of risk in running pretty old PSU's even though your unit is pretty good quality.

I would target the PSU as your next upgrade if you decide not to swap it out now

Better get a new PSU just to be on the safe side. Anyway, would you recommend the Corsair cx600 builder series PSU.

Its pretty cheap at my local PC parts store in the UK at 48 pounds (around $70)
