Couple of Questions, RAID/error checking/3tb HD compatability

1) I am currently doing an error check 2 WD Green 1.5tb HD's WD15EARS-00Z5b1 as they have developed some problems (these are used for storage, not boot). One about 2 years ago and I can't recall if I ever ran it through an error-checking through windows 7 default program so I am doing that now and than HD Tune. And than doing the same thing with the other HD that just started giving me problems within the last week.

My question is there any other better programs for doing this? And should I expect there to be more errors to show up in the future due to having these issues now? Assuming I can get these in a workable state and not have to dispose of them.

2) Assuming I am able to get both drives up and running again I was thinking about putting them in RAID 1, if the chance of getting further errors is good in the future (depending on the answer or my research I am doing to be doing). Though chances are this setup will be repurposed to just be the Steam video game hard drive so rock solid reliability is preferred but not required as I can replace the data. So would this be a good idea?

Because if the chances of getting more errors is low I may just use 1 drive for steam and the other for just normal storage if I can get both working again.

3) I was looking to pick up a 3tb hard drive to put my data on from these 2 other hard drives assuming I can get the data off it (which in the past I could get a decent chunk off one but not all, and the other newly messed up on I could still access last I checked but I had issues after that).

The issue I have with this idea is that my motherboard is a older nvidia 650i ultra board and I have heard there are issues concerning with 64bit win7 not recognizing the entire 3tb HD if the bios doesn't support UEFI.

This is the part I need clarifying, I heard that only pertains to the boot drive with it needing UEFI, is that true? Than for me to get the full 3tb all I have to do is enable GBT instead of MBR right? As from my understanding that was what was causing the limitation in max HD capacity correct?

I beleive the bios has a 2.2tb limit but, like you, I'm not sure if that makes a difference to a storage drive. How about you buy 1 locally, with every intention of returning it, to test with? (be sure theres no restocking fee)
If it works you can order one online (much cheaper I'll assume)
