After turning on my computer, I noticed that my resolution was not the same. My monitor is being identified as a "Generic Non-PnP Monitor." I'm on Windows 7 with an EVGA GTX 560 Ti. I tried installing the new drivers for my GFX, but that didn't help. I would really appreciate some help.

While you could probably force the resolution have you tried windows update you might perhaps get lucky and get an monitor inf update from there. If not i'd suggest that you locate the monitor driver from the manufacturer's website download it and update it through your device manager under the monitor section.

No important Windows Updates available. For some reason, there are no drivers for my ASUS VH236H Monitor, I checked the website.

If you go into device manager and under the monitor tab find the generic monitor and remove it. Then right click on any of the boxes in there and click scan for hardware changes. With any luck it was a glitch and should pop your monitor back up for you.

Ok since that didn't work try a manual update and search through the listings manually in device manager under the generic monitor. See if you can't locate your asus monitor within there.

Well he said he installed the latest so i'm assuming that they are functioning properly. If he can't locate the drivers for monitor he could always either force the resolution in the nvidia control panel or in the screen resolution and just ignore that he has the generic monitor driver.

I know it's not a problem with the Drivers. NVIDIA control panel doesn't let me force resolution, I click apply, but nothing changes. Also, NVIDIA control panel says I'm using a DVI Cable, which I'm not. I'm using an HDMI cable.

What connection are you using...HDMI, DVI, VGA(blue connector with thumb screws on each end)?
Also, did this work ok before?
If so, what has been done since the last time it worked ok?

Edit: Ok, I see the answer to my questions.
Sounds like an installation problem...
1.. uninstall the drivers for your GFX. use driver sweeper to get them all.
2.. restart the system and it will install generic windows divers.
3.. after system is fully loaded, check your resolution and see if you can move up to your native res.
4.. install the NVidia drivers and this should fix the issue with the monitor and res problem.
Let us know if it worked.

If you go into advanced settings in the screen resolution from your desktop click on list all modes you might be able to force the resolution in there. Make sure to keep it at the max your monitor lists and being on hdmi do not go over 60hz for refresh rate.

That didn't work either. Man, this is really frustrating. I'm starting to think its a problem with my Monitor and not my software.

DVI Cable gives me the proper resolution, but now how do I get audio to my monitors since my HDMI cable doesn't work? Thanks for recommending that.

Well you could either run a straight audio cable if you have one which i'm assuming monitor has as well or if you have another spare hdmi cable try plugging that in and give it a go. Strange thing that the cable would do that considering it was working before.
