Greetings everyone! I have recently decided to trade in my controller for a keyboard and mouse and venture back into the world of PC gaming. I have spent the last 5 years with a Macbook which now breaks a sweat whenever I watch movies on my 2nd display, so I figured it was time to leave the butter knife at home and bring the proper weapon to the gun-fight.

I am looking to build myself a rig that has the power to chew through the more PC intensive games on the higher settings with a degree of future proofing and easy upgrade ability (which is pretty much what everyone wants, right?!). Bear in mind that I am also a complete and utter noob when it comes to building computers (the specs for computer components might as well be in Spanish).

I have been perusing the forums and learning as much as I can, but I will still need your help in making this all happen! So please, help this noob build his first rig! :D

Approximate Purchase Date: As soon as I can get the funds together, ideally within the month.

Budget Range: Looking to spend up to $1500, however spending the whole $1500 isn't necessary if it only gives minimal gains.

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming will be priority #1. Watching movies/shows, as well as some Photoshop dabbling.

Are you buying a monitor: No.

Do you need to buy OS: Yes.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Whatever is cheapest :)

Location: Ontario, Canada

Parts Preferences: The only piece that I am firm on is the case (NZXT Phantom). The rest is up for debate.

Overclocking: Potentially in the future if it is the best available option for upgrading.

SLI or Crossfire: Same as above.

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080 (ASUS VE247H)

Additional Comments: I took a stab at putting together my own build. Feel free adjust it as you see fit, or rip it completely apart and put together something better, you're call! I may also buy some parts individually if they go on sale before I can purchase the rest of the components.

You can also replace the SSD with this one
http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/part/sandisk-internal-hard-drive-sdssdhp256gg25

i seriously don't see a difference in terms of speed from 1 SSD to another so i usually go for quality ones and these 2 are very nice quality brands.

Thank you for the reply :D Definitely different than my original, lol. Would I be able to swap out the case for my preferred choice (Phantom)? I unfortunately have my heart set on that case line.

Just looked into it, looks like they are coming out late May/Early June. If I can have the funds sooner rather than later I will most likely pull the trigger on the best available (not much for waiting), however if I still don't have the funds by May I might just wait until they are released. Although if I wait that long this entire build may be different, lol.

Yes go for it, i have one myself and it's not to bad. It does cheap out here and there but i like it when it was priced around $70 which i thought was a fair deal for the case. I would prefer the R4 just my preference and taste because they don't cheap out on the inside. Don't forget to make sure you have enough room for the phantom(which is the reason why i want to get another case because it is just as big as a full tower while the inside is mid tower.

Yeah, I have heard it is quite a cumbersome case. Why did they have to make it look so damn awesome :(. If I can convince myself to get another case I will definitely go for something more practical, like the R4.

One of the many reason why i love the fractal R4 is because of the quality of every part inside. The case is small but wide to fit quite a bit and is very thick compared to some other cases(less bending) one think i really like about the R4 is the quality dust filters, the one on 500R, 410 phantom, and CM haf XM have pretty crappy dust filters(unless you replace them). Also one thing to mention is that the R4 is suppose to be a silent low profile case(can come with window to show off here and there though) and has a a fan switch(500R and 410 have one too)
