Hello,

I've been playing pc games for a couple years now and before around 4 months ago everything was fine. But now recently I have been getting strange stuttering across all my games (something like 125 fps feels like 40, or 60 fps feels like 20).

If I reduce the resolution from 1920x1080 to something like 1280x1024 the game will run fine if its on around 250 fps. But anything else all games feel and look very stuttery.

Ive tested for micro stutter and mouse lag and my temperatures are fine for the GPU and CPU.

The games I play are dota2, cod4, black ops, shootmania, css and cs:GO.

Specs
mobo: ASUS P8Z77-V LX
CPU: Intel 3570
G-Card: Nvidia GeForce 560Ti
Ram: 4 gig 1600
HDD: Seagate 500GB
PSU: 620W Antec High Current Gamer
Monitor: ASUS VH222
Sound card: ASUS Xonar essence stx
Keyboard: Logitech G510
Mouse: Razer Deathadder 3.5
OS: windows 7 64 Bit

I have tried lots and lots of different things and some of these are:

Different graphics card.
bought new ram.
Bought a new psu.
formatted my pc numerous times.
tried windows xp.
mucked around with Nvidia control panel.

But nothing seems to work. Does anybody know if this is a hardware issues or if it has a simple fix?

Thanks guys.

Try turning V-sync on. Even if you have high fps, a high fluxation in fps can feel like low fps because not all frames are being shown.
What this does is locks the maximum fps to your moniter's refresh rate, most likely 60 hertz.

Most games have a setting in the video menu that allows you to turn it on. If it doesn't then you have to go into the your video cards control panel and do it. But try doing it in-game first.

v-scync does smooth the game out a bit but with call of duty it is highly recommended to use 125 or 250 fps because it gives you a boost in your jumping. So I don't want v-sync turned on.

Thanks anyway

Okay basically in the Quake engine which is used on call of duty, quake games and others there is a glitch where on 125 fps you jump LONGER and on 250 fps you jump higher aswell as 333 fps where you jump even higher, these fps caps are called "sweet spots".

Anybody found any solutions for my problem?

Fps has no impact on the physics in the game. I don't know where you read about fps making you jump longer or higher but they were trolling you.

Hypothetically assuming a glitch like this did exist with the quake engine you would think somebody would have fixed it in the 17 years since the original quake was released.

Your fps will not make you jump higher or further.
It has absolutely no relation to in-game physics.

I did try and google "quake boost in your jumping" just to see what would happen.

https://www.google.com/search?q=quake+boost+in+your+jumping+fps&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:eek:fficial&client=firefox-a

Nothing in any of the first 5 pages says anything about any glitch.
Not that i expected it do so.

Please send me a link to this ground-breaking technology that is able to make you jump higher or faster depending on how high your fps is.

Mentions strafe jumping and rocket jumping. Neither of which work better with super high fps.

I've tested know many strafing jumps on cod4 that I cannot at all do with 250 which I can do on 333 or 125 fps because of the distance of the jump. Still not convinced then youtube strafing jumps with 125 fps, 250 fps or 333 fps.

Please don't bump, this discussion annoys me (and is against the rules), and I hate seeing it again especially with no new content.

Going from 333 to 120 fps will cause the micro-stuttering you were talking about.
Your only solution is to remove the bottlenecks in your system that are stopping you from maintaining a solid 333 fps.
You mentioned black ops i assume you mean the first but i'll list benchmarks for both black ops and black ops 2

Black Ops

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Call-of-Duty-Black-Ops-Laptop-Benchmarks.42614.0.html

Your current card,NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti, is ranked at 80 fps for 1920x1080p with ultra graphics.

You would need at least 4 - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti in SLI to reach the magic 333 fps, assuming it all scaled linearly which would be the best case scenario that would put you at 340 fps.

If you do not trust there benchmarks for Black Ops then i found another benchmark, direct from Nvidia.

http://www.geforce.com/optimize/optimal-game-settings/Call-of-Duty-Black-Ops-GeForce-GTX-560-OPS

It says your maximum fps at recommended settings would be 71 fps.
You would need a theoretical 5 way SLI to do that 71x5=355. Again assuming best case scenario that everything scales linearly and that 5 way SLI existed.
So it may not even be possible to hit 333 average fps with your current card.

According to

http://www.geforce.com/optimize/optimal-game-settings/Call-of-Duty-Black-Ops-GeForce-GTX-580-OPS

3 - Geforce 580 in 3 way SLI scaled linearly would be just short of the 333 ideal (103 x 3 = 309) It may be possible to hit 333 if you lowered a few settings such as anti-aliasing and texture quality.

They don't list the Black ops benchmarks under Geforce 680 list but we can assume based on the battlefield 3 benchmarks that performance is about
69 fps / 54 fps = 1.27 or 27% better.

http://www.geforce.com/optimize/optimal-game-settings/Battlefield-3-NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-580-OPS

http://www.geforce.com/optimize/optimal-game-settings/Battlefield-3-NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-680-OPS

So if we run those numbers using the Geforce GTX 580 numbers for Black ops assuming a Geforce 680 is 27% better than a Geforce 580 we get
103 x 1.27 = 130 fps. 2 - Nvidia Geforce 680s would be around 260 fps, assuming it scaled linearly and 3 - Nvidia Geforce 680s would be around 390 fps.

If you were going to buy a new card i would recommend 2 Nvidia Geforce 680s in SLI or Nvidia Geforce 690 and maybe turning down the anti-aliasing from 16x to 8x. This should raise the average fps from 260 to around 300.

I know all of this may seem a bit expensive, for the average gamer ... and it is lol. But that is what is needed to get a stable frame rate of at least 333 fps in Call of Duty Black ops.

And all these calculations assume you will not be
bottle-necked by your cpu, Intel 3570. At such high fps even a semi-modern game could possible bring an i5 to it's knees.

Black Ops 2

http://www.notebookcheck.net/typo3temp/pics/e5ba587ce0.jpg

Your Geforce GTX 560 Ti isn't listed but it makes little difference.
If we look 3rd from the bottom we see the Geforce GTX 660 Ti which is the next model up from yours, and it gets 95 fps at 1920x1080.
Even if you had 3 of those in SLI the maximum fps you would get assuming it all scaled linearly would be 285 fps.

My recommendation for CoD Black ops 2 is about the same as CoD Black Ops 1.
2 - Geforce 680s in sli or Geforce 690.

You could also turn on V-Sync and not jump as high and save $1000s of dollars.

Is this enough research?

Thanks

I am not looking to upgrade my system as I am very satisfied with my performance and fps of the game as I dont go below 125 fps anywhere. I run the game at pretty much the lowest graphics and not to mention that I play on a mod called promod which increases the fps by a lot compared to unmodded servers.

If I didn't have any strange stutter I would cap the fps to 125 fps and on 1920x1080 (not 250 and 1280x1024) and that is what i'm trying to aim at. Basically all I am trying to do is get rid of the stutter that games shouldn't give me, not increase my fps.
