Hello!

I have an external HD, Transcend Storejet HDD 320 GB, I had been using it fine for about one and a half years. Suddenly one fine morning it stopped working. When I plug it in, it is shown in the safely remove hardware section but does not show up in My computer. I tried to initialize the disk from Disk Management but it shows the disk as uknown with a red + sign and when I try to initialize it using MBR it says incorrect function. What should I do? I do not require the data in the HD, I just want it to be usable again. I use Win 7 by the way.

Any help would be highly appreciated!!

Extract the drive from the enclosure (if possible) and fit it inside a third-party enclosure. That should fix the problem if, as usually happens with external drives, the SATA-USB bridge chip has failed in the Transcend enclosure.

Thanks Phil, I'll try that and let you know if it works!
