RAM Usage Issue.

Lately I've been getting a problem with my RAM, my computer is using 60% most of the time and I barely have any programs open.

I've gone into task manager and tried to close a few processes but it still stays the same.

I have 8GB RAM.

Any help please? Would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

What kind of usage are you getting? I'm Running 6GB usage right now under windows 7 64bit with 47 hardware reserved, 275 modified and 6109 Standby. Leaving me with 3211MB free with 16GB of ram.

I've got a ram disk which uses quite a bit but for you it could very easily show only 2GB of "free" memory if using 64 bit OS as it puts temp files in to ram that it expect you to use later. This is the "standby" stuff and not a big worry. If your "in use" is 6GB and you didn't change anything lately you could have a virus. It should tell you under resource monitor how much is being used by what program.

It says I have 60% Usage and this is what's being used:

Hardware Reserved: 10MB
In use: 5700MB
Modified: 15MB
Standby: 1000MB
Free: 1300MB

I hope I don't have a virus and if I do is there a way I can see what it is/remove it?

win key+r for the RUN menu, type msconfig. head to the startup tab and disable all. These programs are loaded into ram to speed up load times. You can disable all of them it doesn't hurt anything but if there are programs on there that you use often you may want to leave them.

Also you can look into googleing black viper, this guy makes writeups for what services you don't need running this would also help with process/ram usage.

Just for reference i have 8gb and typically it has 20% usage and 55-59 process running at boot.

Tried that ^ I closed all the things I didn't need, restarted and all. I also ran Malwarebytes, it detected 1 file and I terminated it, restarted and still nothing, computer still runs with 60-70% RAM usage.. I'm starting to get worried because I have so much important files on here, and recently upgraded computers so... :(

The IGPU is a good idea to look at. Also You've got a lot of free memory left so I wouldn't really worry about it unless you are also getting a lot of lag with the CPU. Is there any specific reason why you are wanting more free ram? Just being free won't give you any performance boost.

I have an AsRock Z77 Pro3 Intel Mainboard, and I don't know how to do that ^

Oh, but if you're saying something about a GPU, if this has anything to do with it, I recently bought a Radeon 7770, if that has done anything?

I would just like more RAM allocated to my editing, because when I'm in Photoshop/After Effects/Vegas, I always get 80-90% RAM Usage. And for my CPU it always stays under 20% unless I'm gaming then it goes to around 30-40%, and when I'm recording while gaming, everything is all good.

EDIT: Ignore all that please^ I realised what it was, it was RAMDisk, I disabled it now because I don't know what it does, but whatever! Thanks for the responses and help! :)
