I've decided to finally get an SSD. At first I planned to spend around $70 and get a 60GB, but then I saw the Samsung 840 120GB for only $100 on Amazon and now I'm indecisive. Is that a decent price for a solid drive? and also (with budget a main concern here) are there any cheap(ish) 60GB SSDs that are still solid drives for lower prices?

with most ssd's, the larger the drive is the better its performance is. You might want to check the 120gb drives spec's and see if its still good enough for you. TLC is a bit slower than MLC.

A benefit of the triple level cells is that if you can afford a 120gb mlc drive then you can usually find an 840 in twice the size for the same, or real close, price on sale somewhere.

Right. That's exactly the question I was trying to ask. I don't have any knowledge about SSDs - this is my first one. Would the speed of the 120gb still be the large speed improvement over a mechanical drive that I am looking for?
