Hi - my uncle and I decided to build new gaming rigs and both decided to go with the Samsung 840 pro series 256GB SSD. Our random writes / reads seem to be low according to what is advertised.

First Rig
Asus Rampage formula IV
i7 3930k
16GB DDR3 memory 7-7-7-24
Samsung 840 Pro 256GB
GTX 670 GPU
Corsair 700 Watt PSU

Second Rig
Asrock extreme6 x79
i7 3820
16Gb patriot memory 9-9-9-24
samsung 840 pro 256gb
GTX 560ti
Rocketfish 500 watt PSU (This needs to be upgraded imo)

*Updated bios to latest
* Installed latest intel chipset drivers
* Completed both OCZ windows 7 tweaks and toms hardware tweaks (both of which are very similar)
* Confirmed using sata 3 cables, cables are short

Note: We both notice small delays at times when gaming, ability lag etc. I took a screenshot of my as ssd test - just seemed low compared to advertised specs. Any help is appreciated :)

That's par for the course. They report how the drive will perform under optimal circumstances, but in practice, performance may be much lower.

Make sure the drives are in AHCI mode in BIOS. If not, you'll either have to reinstall Windows or use a registry hack to enable it. It'll help performance, especially over time.

I think I was in too much of a hurry, I didn't even think of that. Yeah you're using the Microsoft driver while they're using the Intel Rapid Storage driver. There are differences, but there's AFAIK no clear winner in general.

Get the Intel Rapid Storage driver from Asus/Asrock and try the test again.

Whats the difference between these Intel Rapid Storage Technology enterprise driver software V3.6.0.1093 for Windows Vista/7/8 32bit & 64bit.(WHQL) and Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver software V11.7.0.1030 for Windows 7/8 32bit & 64bit.(WHQL.

I installed the enterprise based driver, rebooted the machine and ran AS SSD it listed iastorA - ran test cut my write speeds in half now ._.

Fixed the Asrock - there appears to be an issue with the enterprise class driver. got 98k / 88k random IOPS with samsung magician. Still having issues with the Asus - going to do a clean installation and start from scratch as I am sure I have dirtied the drive with my constant testing / troubleshooting.
