Sometimes after tabbing out of a game or a program hangs I'm not able to simply shut it down. It is possible to press ctrl+shift+esc or ctrl+alt+del and open the task manager. But in desktop view the screen is occupied with the crashed program. The taskbar at the bottom is visible but if I try to access anything the program lays on top before I'm able to do anything.

I can access the w8 metro menu but I can't shut down the crashed program from there either.

Solution
Hi.
Yes, I did have the same problem.
Check under the options tab in Task Manager.
If "minimize on use is checked, unchecked it.
Then checked "always on top"
I hope this help.
That "feature of Windows 8 was a real PITA for me. ;-}}

Have you tried using ALT+TAB to switch out of it? I'm using Windows 8 and whenever something hangs I usually can't click anywhere, but ALT+TAB always has worked for me.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Yes I tried that as well. Sometimes tabbing out is the trigger to the problem.

This must be it! Thank you so much, thanks on behalf of Windows as well I guess. ;-) Windows 8 is not as well setup from start as 7 (and XP) was but I'm coming around, especially with your help.

I had to create an account on this site so I could tell you that you're my hero! Seriously, THANK YOU! I was at my wit's end with my computer, Windows 8, and myself. My game crashing, I could handle. But being helpless to kill the ah heck without restarting? Torture. So, again, an emphatic thank you!
