Hi,

I have an Acer Aspire E1-531 with Windows 8.

Yesterday it becomes slow, so I decided to turn it off, and then turn it on again. The problem is that the laptop turns on, it appears the Acer logo, but after that the screen gets totally black, appearing only the mouse pointer.

I've already tried to turn it off and on many times, and nothing works.

Anyone what's can be causing this problem?

Thanks.

Can you get into Setup by pressing F2 after power on?
Edit
Had hoped to see Memory/ HDD diagnostics in your BIOS, but seems not.
If you have more than one stick of RAM, remove one at a time to see if you can boot normally.
If that fails to reveal anything, try F8 after Power on whilst holding down the shift key. This should get you into Safe Mode Boot Menu.
If successful, choose Safe Mode with Networking.
At this point the main suspect is your Hard Drive. If possible, download and run Diagnostic software.
Seatools for Windows will test most drives

Sorry, I didn't see the edited post.

I think I'll have to take it to Acer, because the laptop is on warranty, so is not recommended to open it.

The computer has only 2 months... :/

Yep, they charge a small fortune in the PC shops to do just that, but agreed you'll have to take it back whatever. Hopefully they'll retrieve data for you.

Hey buddy had the same problem rang tech support, told me to turn power on, then press F2, then when screen popped up, pressF9 and then enter, then press F10 then enter.... Boom should work now.. He said its a typical system failure due to updates of software.

Yebbut, F2 didn't work for the OP...no response, zilch...

Hey man, my computer has the same problem. So I followed what tech support told you to do. And after I pressed f10 enter, the acer symbol appeared again, then just went back to being blank again with only the cursor. What the?

Probably your Hard Drive failed. If you have access to another machine create a bootable test disk

Set your Boot Order to DVD/CD 1st and run the test. Also check out your RAM as above post
