Hello, my first post, after years of reading the helpful advise here.

My XFX Double D Radeon 7870 idles between 29 & 33 degrees Celsius *I do not plan to OC the card anytime soon*

My card hits a temp of 81 Celsius when playing Tomb Raider on Ultra.*getting a full 60 FPS at 19020 x 1080 resolution* Hits between 66 & 70 on Planet side 2 with settings on Low to Medium. Is this too high?*User opinions wanted, as I dont fully trust sale reps.

I called support and they said it was fine, if the card got hotter than 95 degrees Celsius, then I should get worried.

My Hardware atm is

MY SPECS*
CPU: AMD A6 3650 Processor 2.6Ghz
GPU: XFX Double D Radeon HD 7870 Black Edition 2GB GDDR5
RAM: 8 GB DDR3-1600
Type: DDR3-1600
Speed: PC3-12800 MB/sec
PSU: XFX Core Edition PRO750W

I originally had a hp pavilion p6-2143w , so I am buying a new case, motherboard and the FX 6300*The gaming case I will have delivered at 7:30pm tonight for $30 off Craigslist*great deal* and will get the CPU/Mobo tomorrow at Micro center.

I think my Mobo is holding back performance in gaming. The case I think might be causing the heat up? I had to literally cut some of the case out, to fit the GPU and PSU, as the case was too small. I made sure I removed the part of the frame properly, and re installed all the hardware when I was done.

I am going to get a Gigabyte, Asus or msi 970 or 990 MB to go with the CPU. I don't plan to overclock my pc, as I never have before, but when I upgrade in the future, Ill then have this OC ready to play with. The Budget for my CPU/MB is $200, I looked at the I3 & i5, but will get the FX6300

This is the CPU http://www.microcenter.com/site/products/amd_bundles.as..., And Ill look at the MB's when I get there.

Also should I upgrade my ram? or will I not notice much difference at the current speeds of my ram?

I am planning to buy the hardware tomorrow, with the case coming tonight
Here is the case I bought

Many Thanks in advance. Ill be online for a few hours to replied if its needed.

can't read all your stuff but,,,,,,,,,,, the apu is holding back....

for a cooler card. go into the CCC and look up over clocking or overdrive i guess it is. put a check-mark where the "key" is. when that opens up use the over ride fan speed and set it to 37% for starters. do what you do and keep an eye on the temps. in the meantime you can remove the side panel from the case to help dissipate heat.

Thanks for the reply. I never Over Clocked before and really dont think this CPU/MB is gonna be able to handle that, as for the fans, I could not find it in CCC. I have a program called "Speed Fan" and it has my GPU fan set to 37%

I do have the side panel removed.

I ran a test with Furmark and here is what I got

I am just concerned that its too hot on this current mobo*its my first dedicated GPU, so guess I am a newbie. I have built dozens of pcs, just never a gaming pc before. Hopefully, when I rebuild it tomorrow with a new CPU and mobo it will run cooler.
