Hi. I've had a PC gaming system since October 2012. It has run fine, then in March, it started to be weird. It would randomly turn off, so I decided to do some cable management to fix any problems. I turned it off (it was running fine), moved it to my PC workstation, did my cable management, and plugged it back in. To my dismay, it wouldn't turn on. No fans or anything. I did a power supply (Corsair CX750) test and it worked fine. I have an MSI Z77MA-G45, GTX 660 (MSI), Intel 2700K 3.5 Ghz Sandy Bridge, Corsair Vengeance 8 GB DDR3. Help??

Make sure your using the correct 6 (or is it 4..?) pin motherboard connector or w/e it is. I had this exact problem. Had the wrong one plugged in. I also had a Corsair PSU but mine was the TX750. Good luck.

"Randomly" turning off, turns out to be not so randomn. Sometimes when the CPU overheats the motherboard will shut itself off to help prevent chip damage. If indeed you do have all the cables connected properly, then it's most likely that you may need a new CPU or motherboard (probably both).

Are you sure I wouldn't just need more thermal paste?

I would not jump to conclusions that his board or CPU is dead just yet. I'm willing to bet he is not plugged in a cable some where. Make sure this is not the case first. Then move on to the next possible issue.

Do you mean the 4-pin that hooks into the 20-pin?

I plugged it in the way it's been since October. I don't know what would be different.

I think I ended up making the 6 pin fit in the 4 pin (leaving two pins unused) when I messed up. I then put the correct 4 pin in and it worked for me. If you have this correctly hooked up, You might try clearing your CMOS battery buy removing it for a moment and putting it back in. Make sure the power switch on the back of the PSU is set to the on position.

If this doesn't do it... You might have a bigger problem.

Also, does the motherboard light come on at all? Assuming it has one.

Okay that PSU does not have a 4 pin I don't think, so I want to say theres a funky way to hook it up correctly with the ones it has, I'm trying to find the correct method. Gimme a sec.

Maybe this thread can better explain what I am referring to. http://www.overclock.net/t/1187972/motherboard-has-4-pin-connector-but-psu-only-has-a-6-pin

One of the 8 pins can get split in two for the 4 pin on the mobo.

Forgive the constant edits here. I am running on little sleep atm and my brain is broken lolol
