Because the Dell Precision 650 and Precision 670 are similar in many respects, is there any possibility that a Precision 670 power supply could fit inside the detachable Precision 650 plastic power supply housing and be used to power a Precision 650? Has anybody tried this? Suggestions?

If you have both, why not try it? Looking online, it seems that they use a non-standard size for the PSU, so you may not be able to find a replacement commercially.

Don't forget to check eBay for replacements. I did a quick search and see them running about $25-$50 for a used one.

From my experience be careful about trying to swap power supplies in Dell machines. Occassionally models have unusual wiring layouts and additional power connections. Don't be suprised that even if the unit fits in the same space it doesn't include all the outputs you need.

If it fully follows the ATX standard with its pinout then it should be fine, however if its one of Dell's proprietary pinouts on the motherboard connectors and it differs from your current power supply, then you could damage your components so be careful. Search online for a replacement, they are usually simple to find ebay as JMer806 said.

Hope this helps somewhat!
