Expanding Network Coverage

Hello everyone,

I am looking to expand the network coverage in my house. As of now, I have a wireless router TP-Link WDR4300 as the main router, placed in the center of the house (the living room, 1st floor). As it's a double storey house, I intend to expand the coverage by adding 2 more wireless devices, one in my room (it's a corner room where wireless reception is almost always at single bar) and another in ground floor living room.

All these locations already have Ethernet ports in place. So it's just as easy as plug and play. My main question is, should I be purchasing new wireless routers (and dumb them down to function only as AP) or should I purchase new wireless access points instead? I checked the prices for TP-Link devices and apparently, TP-Link's wireless AP, TL-WA701ND is 10 bucks more expensive its wireless router, TL-WR741ND.

So, which one should I choose? What benefits do I get for choosing a wireless AP over a wireless router?

Thanks guys, looking forward to great replies.

Solution
I like to use a router since should something happen to my main router (death) I can replace it right away.

I believe the price difference is due to the quantity produced. I used to be a difference of $20-$30

Hence, your suggestion is to get Wireless Routers instead of Wireless Access Points, correct? May I know what's the reasoning? Put this way, despite having no routing function, Wireless AP costs slightly more than a similar performing Wireless Router, which kinda makes my wonder why.

You got a point there.

While I understand that supply and demand is a factor, but think about it, leaving out routing hardware means that there's one less cost. Hence, shouldn't AP be cheaper that way? Well, just my curiosity. Anyway, great answer. I'll pick as solution.
