hey guys!

i just recently got a 960T that i would like to overclock. the problem is i can not go over 3.0ghz. iv read that this cpu is sopposed to be one of the best overclockers out there so this is baffling. i have my multiplier at 15 and voltage at 1.4. when i go above this i will restart the computer and my pc doesnt even post. i reset cmos and start over.

my rig:
phenom II 960t BE
ECS a780lm-m2 mobo
sapphire hd radeon 7750 1gig gddr5
4 gigs ddr3 1333mhz

another question i have is that when i tick the acc button in my bios nothing seems to happen. i thought this mobo whould unlock the 5th or even the 6th core but nothing happens when acc is on (iv tried auto/per core). i looked up the tables and this board clearly supports my cpu and even some hex core cpus, so what gives?

iv researched this throughly! so dont flame me! im 16 yrs old and this is my first build. i originally was stuck at 800ghz and i researched my way outta that one (cool and quiet was enabled). so any help is appreciated and thanks so much in advanced!

-andy

ps... im goin to sleep now but i will be up in 7 hours so im sorry if i do not respond immediately

There is no mention of the 960T on the cpu compatibility list, same goes for any of the X6 cpu's.

You could try updating to the latest bios, however with such a low end board/chipset i wouldn't risk overclocking.
3ghz is the stock clock for this cpu i would stick with that or buy a new board.

I have to agree with the Hamster, it does not appear that your board officially supports any of the Zosma (X6) CPU's, of which the 960 is one. Be advised that you can only go up to 95W chips, so unlocking the extra cores is proably not a good idea anyway.

Do you have a power supply with enough capacity to handle your attempted overclock?

Ok thanks guys. I figured that unlocking the cores would be a no-no with this board but I didn't think that over clocking it to 3.4ghz would stressed this board out too much. And, I have a 450w psu so I was hoping that is enough. U think that could be the reason for my over clocking whoas??

for overclocking id go with the asus 970 R2, or top budget gigabyte 970 ud3 for its 8+2 power phase, but make sure if u go new board it can overclock and attempt to unlock the extra cores, some am3+ boards dont have the core unlocking feature
