I came across this http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/230067-45-migrating-intel-mobo-mobo-dies-stop#8691519 and it seemed to have worked for people so I'm wondering will it work the other way around? I see amdppm.sys along with amdsata,amdsbs, and amdxata.sys. Would I just rename amdppm or the others?

The simple answer is yes it should, however one caveat: On every machine I have migrated I have used the method of 'on first boot hit F8 and go into safe mode to remove all drivers, reboot then install new drivers'. Sometimes Windows will want to manually re-activate, but that is just an automated phonecall. (OK it's a premium number, but so what)
I have never encountered the problem in the other thread from Win9x up through to Win7. I have not yet had the opportunity to try it on Win8.
