7 Starer has black background

My girl has a HP mini 5103, she turned it on the other day and the background image has turned black.I have run the regedit and found that the wallpaper value had been deleted. After doing some research, I set the value to : %windir%\web\wallpaper\windows\img0.jpg Still nothing. I also checked the EASE of ACCESS option that I found , that is set correctly. Its a legit copy of Windows also, it came pre-installed. Does 7 Starter edition expire?

Has it been activated yet? Check your system properties under control panel for this information.

Are there any warnings concerning impending shut-down or expiry?

Yes it has been activated, for over 8 months now and no there are no warnings, just a black back ground image. Is the HP mini capable of running the same windows 7 as my desktop?

No reason why it shouldn't. Does the PC work OK otherwise? Any problems besides the background going black?

Yes every thing else seems to run fine. I think i will just install the full windows 7 version. Thanks for your help!
