time is finally here for me to build my PC.

The CPU i have come to like is the EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 Ti FTW+ 3GB
http://www.amazon.co.uk/EVGA-GeForce-Graphics-Express-S...

Not actually 100% sure on Gcard but i have read that this is a good one and 650w should power it enough to max out most games.

looking to pay about £250 for the card

Again thanks in advance to any advice

Sorry posted it in the wrong thread

Firstly that's a gpu not a cpu, but that's probably just a mistake on your part. You should give us most/all of your components before anyone can properly decide that is the right gpu for you. So write down the motherboard, the cpu, the ram and the psu you're planning to get and other important factors (32 bit or 64 bit os), number and resolution of the monitor(s) that you want. etc.

Okay your components are pretty good, I'm assuming you're planning to upgrade suggested by your psu although your motherboard is pretty overkill, the Asus P8Z77-V LK Motherboard is cheaper, and pretty much supports the same stuff without paying that extra £50. The 660ti is a great card to sli, although the 3gb is complete overkill if you're getting a single monitor 1080p setup. Games barely ever use more than 1gb or more of vram on a single monitor at 1080p.

So as I final verdict a 2gb 660 ti or a hd 7870 is your best bet. Although with all the money cut off with that I've suggested, you could easily either get a gtx 670 or just get one 660ti or 7870 and sli/crossfire in the future. Although I recommend just getting the 660ti/7870 and use sli/crossfire in future.

PS: I highly advise you to avoid win 8, because of all the compatibility issues, and is only worth it getting a touchscreen monitor, and even then it's bad for gaming.

Very Helpful especially the information about the MB, and if just signle monitor the 3gb is overkill.

Thanks again, and sorry for the wrong thread post :)

Just awaiting some other input... but your advice is taken in already pricing it up with the cut down GCard and MB (£100 saving)

And those would be? I hear this a lot but I know of no such issues. 7 and 8 under the hood are more or less the same. 8 has "improved" support for AMDs newest CPU but other then that they are very similar. Yes, they have a different GUI. But you can still get to the desktop on 8 if you want with an extra click. Not a huge deal. You might even learn to like Tiles. (LOL!) I wouldn't avoid 8. But at the same time I wouldn't pay extra for it either.

660TI, 670, 7870, 7950, etc, are all good. Pick based on your budget and likes. I personally went with the 7950. Got myself a sweet eyefinity setup along with two games I care about. If you go Nvidia make sure your motherboard supports SLI.

Well, atleast for me I had loads of issues with games, and it randomly crashed on me alot (this was a genuine copy.) My friend also had the same issues as me too, so I assumed it to be a common issue. Although that was quite naive of me to assume all these problems I experienced were common place. On the other hand, when I had win 7, I experienced no problems and it was just pretty much less of a hassle. NOOOO the extra click was DOOM I tell you! It was putting strain on my fingers ten fold!?! All jokes aside I just don't like win 8, it's a bit gimmicky for me. Although many people have different opinions and you can't really say that either os is better. Atleast I've learnt that people aren't going to think necessarily similarly to me. Apparently if you learn the hotkeys properly on win 8, it should be really fast and easy to use. The only thing I actually came to like is the ability to go into desktop mode (essentially win 7), as you've said. :p

TLDR: Win 8 is good, but just a bit gimmicky for me, and hinders me sometimes. It causes some problems with games and crashes. Although the desktop mode is appealing to me, but win 7 is the same thing and I don't use live tiles. I don't think touchscreen on desktops are practical and also a bit of a gimmick. Can't really compare win 7 or 8 properly?
