Case ventilation options - Push vs Pull

I'm building a small, Mini-ITX PC in a Bitfenix Prodigy case. It turns out a bit noisy, so for starters I've ordered a couple of very nice Cougar Vortex 140mm fans (17.9 dB(A) from Newegg) - fans were cheap at less than $10 and pretty nice with orange blades, which happens to match the orange case I am using. :)

Now I have a dilemma that I have not come across before. THe fans are really nice-looking in the side that takes the air IN. On the out side, the fan shows the multi-colored wires and it really does not look as nice when mounted at the reead intake (above the mobo and PSU). You can see the front and back pictures on the fan link above.

The case has a large, perforated opening on a side panel where one cannot mount a fan, but it allows for airflow. Again, pictures on the link to the Bitfenix case.

Finally, I have a Corsair H50 Liquid Cooler blowing OUT through the top of the case.

I have a question concerning both the rear fan and the front fan and also for consideration of the two together.

I would usually mount the fans so air is taken in from the front and vented out the rear. The front of the case is relatively obscured. There are only small openings around the edges of the front panel. So I do not believe that blowing air out the front will result in good airflow, right?

Would it be possible to mount the rear fan as well as the front fan so they blow in. effectively sucking air into the case, and rely on the H50 to vent the air through the top and some air perhaps passively to escape through the side panel?

Or would it be more effective for cooling to vent the rear fan out, front fan in and good looks be ignored?

Are there any other options?

Thank you for reading this long note. :)

As far as i understand, you want to reverse the air-flow in the case for better cooling and acoustics. As far as i am aware, you can mount a 230mm fan in the front of that case. That would make for very good cooling and low acoustic signature.

Are you having problems with high temperatures and noise, or just noise?

what i can understand of the case layout, your gonna want the front fan blowing in to cool your HDDs, and top fan blowing out to evacuate heat, and keep dirt out. the rear fan can go either way, Depending on your CPU cooler. if your cpu cooler is side mounded and facing back, the rear fan blowing in can create trouble with your CPU cooling.

sorry, i missed the liquid cooled bit. you should have no trouble with the rear fan blowing in either direction. blowing in might even lower your MB temps and provide more, cooler air for your CPU.

Right now I just have a noise issue. I already bought the 140 mm fans, so I'd like to stick with those. Before I got the new fans, I ran Prime95 and the temp never went above 58/59C.

I guess the best thing to do may be to put the fans in the way I want and to run that again. ALso then see if the noise abated. Next up I'm buying some insulating foam... :)

Cool, thanks.
