i3-3220 vs i5-3470 vs other vs Haswell speculation

I am on a tight budget but I might get the i5-3470 instead of the i3-3220 if it's really worth the extra money.

On the other hand, do you guys recommend waiting for Haswell?

Will it be a smarter thing to get Haswell given that it (and subquent CPUs) will be using the new 1150 Socket?

Will the prices be much higher than current Ivy Bridges when it hits the shelves? If yes, how long does it take for the prices to come down and match current IB counterparts so that I get the additional ~10% CPU performance for the same price clock-for-clock.

I would go for AMD but my country (India) does not have the FX-x300 series. Makes no sense, I know.

I have no information on pricing of any future processors but based on past experience I would expect to see the prices on our next generation processors being close but a little above our 3rd generation Intel® Core™ processors for about the first month and then demand and supply balance out and the pricing even out.

I would take a look at the Intel® Core™ i5-3350P as long as you dont need the IGP (integrated graphics on processor).

Thanks for the reply! We have the i5-3350 (no P) and it is ~$8 cheaper than the 3470. I think the the 3470 is the better choice in that case then?

You're an Intel Enthusiast (and I am a newbie to all this) so would that extra ~10% CPU gain make any real-world difference to performance? I would be mostly gaming/multi-tasking (YouTube, multi tabs)/Office/Photoshop (basic)/regular things.

Will the new 1150 socket offer anything new/better?

Based on Sandy Bridge / Ivy Bridge pricing in the US (specifically the i5-2500k and i5-3570k), when Ivy Bridge was released the i5-2500k dropped $5 at Newegg.com (a popular e-tailer in the US) to $220 and the i5-3570k was priced $10 than the i5-2500k; $230. The net result is that the i5-3570k sold for $5 more than the i5-2500k prior to the release of Ivy Bridge CPUs.

The price of the i5-3570k has subsequently dropped at Newegg and is currently selling for $220. However, I do not know when it dropped since I generally do not keep track of prices.
