Hello guys! Im ordering my pc soon and just wanted to clear my mind about the gpu. Which one to get -

Gigabyte windforce 3 Hd7970 OC

or

Asus HD7950 Direct CUII

Im comparing these becouse they are very similar. Gigabyte hd7970 is voltage locked and asus 7950 is not voltage locked, so i cant OC 7950 to 7970 ( I gues ) Btw how much can this Gigabyte HD7970 Oc edition OC more if its voltage locked?
And also is it so loud as many say? Which one cools better and is quieter The direct CUII or Windforce3 ?
Also Hd7950 is cheaper, so thats + :)

Please tell me your thoughts on which is more worth buying, and tell me everyting you know on what I asked please :)

Thank you in advance

(im new here btw :D)

Ou, and also incase needed, my pc spec are :

Intel core i5 3570k

Asrock z77 extreme4

Corsair vengeance 4Gbx2 (8Gb) blue

Corsair GS600w PSU

CoolerMaster CM690 usb 2.0 edition

1Tb Seagate baracuda HDD

Regular Asus 24x DVD burner

I was under the impression the TOP models were in fact cherry picked.

Meaning that OC headroom was a given, perhaps this has changed or is possibly an nvidia thing

I would go with either the Asus or the HIS IceQ .
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161420

It's 310$ but runs cooler and quieter. I personally own the HIS 7950 and I OC'ed it right out of the box to 1055 core clock and 1500 memory. It is nearly silent and is a solid choice. The Asus 7950 has some higher quality components than the Gigabyte but is more expensive. It is quieter than the HIS or Gigabyte models but does get a bit hotter than the HIS.

you can read a full review here: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7950-review-benchmark,3207.html

Cheers!

There have been some reviews / roundups of various HD7950/HD7970 cards posted recently that have included audio of their coolers. I think HardOCP had at least one of them. All of those coolers (DC, WF, and Black Hole) are quiet. The HIS cooler has an advantage of exhausting the graphics card's heat.
I have personally have had bad experience with Asus graphics cards. Their mobos have been great, but 2/4 graphics cards died on me within hours or days of first use; they were run at stock. This makes me leery of recommending them.

Mabye they were just DOA? : o

Well yes, DOAs are always possible, but 2/4? While I don't feel a need to speak out against them (i.e. they aren't defective or mislabeled by design like Coolermaster PSUs), I just don't feel quite right about recommending them. I have owned quite a few HIS cards that worked well for years, so I feel better about recommending them.
---
If the card is voltage locked, you can OC it to the point of instability and not have to worry about killing it.
I saw a thread not long ago in which some poor drone bought a Titan, apparently with Daddy's money, and fried it with +voltage trying to OC it just because he thought its frequency was too low. It was really sad, in a pathetic sort of way.

Haha :DD Thats a hude fail, if i would have done that I would blow my head, spend that much money and screw it all up o_O Well ok thank you, ill keep that in mind, ill just see what other people will sugjest. But what about if i bought hd7950 Msi? What then would you recomend the MSI hd7950 OC boost edition or the gigabyte hd7970 OC ? The only reason that im afraid of the gigabyte becouse of the sound of the wf3 -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTIA1C6kOVY
BUt how much can it OC ? I need to OC it in the future for future games.

Thanks for suporting

YouTube is blocked for me at work, but the last video review I saw of the Windforce I didn't think it was that loud, unless perhaps the person was benchmarking or bitmining. Playing games, I would not expect it to get loud.
My Asus GTX560Ti was a DCII model (one of the two that failed and was quickly replaced), and I could hear it during games. It wasn't obnoxious, but I could definitely hear it.
How much anything can OC is never a done deal. As well as a HD7970 does in single monitor gaming, it ought to last for years.

AFAIK their components are as good as anyone's. If that card advertises their "Ultra Durable" design, it uses all solid caps, ferrite core chokes, and extra copper in the PCB. I would not be concerned about the color of the PCB. I have never seen any article linking color to quality.

Do you know anything about the ASUS TOP cards being cherry picked?

Is it worth buying a lamer motherboard and a better GPU? Cuz i can buy an asrock z77 pro3 instead of asrock z77 extreme4 and buy a better GPU if worth it. I plan on using my pc for 3-4years and i dont want that My motherboard would broke. If anywhays which gpu do you recomend if i buy a cheaper motherboard? Is gtx670 worth it? Or should I buy a difrent companys (not gigabytes, becouse its voltage locked) hd7970? Thnx

If you want your PC to last, I think it makes the most sense to not compromise on the "infrastructure," i.e. the mobo, and PSU. You'll want them to be stable, reliable, and able to handle any upgrade you may need. While it may mean small sacrifices elsewhere, possibly having to lower a setting (that you won't even notice in the heat of a game) seems like a small price to pay for the durability and longevity you want.
