Hi,
I'm buying a PC from www.newegg.com and I need to know a little bit about expansions being made to the PC. I'm not really apt in the the details of desktops at all so please help me here. First of all, does anybody know if the majority of newegg's computers come with wifi adaptions built it? As in, do I have to install some kind of LAN hardware thing to pick up my house's wifi network? If so, what kind of PCI slot does it take up on the motherboard? Obviously, I need a lot of help with my first PC purchase. Pleas respond soon or email me

You need to edit your original message to remove your email address (unless you like SPAM).

Telling us how you plan to use the system would be useful as well (gaming, development, office applications, etc).

Please list your requirements/needs/budget and we can make some recommendations for a purchase at NewEgg.

Most computers today are not going to have Wifi build into them unless they are laptops. So most likely you are going to need to add a wireless adapter if you want to connect to a wireless network in your home. While it is possible that some high end boards may have wireless adapter as a feature most pre-made desktops won't.

newegg sells lots of brands and models of desktops. if you tell us what models in particular you are looking at, or features that you are looking for, i'm sure you'll get a lot of recommendations.

There are motherboards with Wifi built into them like the Asus P8-Z77-V Pro or the Asrock OC Formula but you will pay premiums for motherboards with this feature. I don't recommend that though because if the wifi fails you will have to replace the entire motherboard. Just get a cheap USB Wifi adapter if you really need it, otherwise that's what the built in LAN function on your motherboard is good for.

While g-unit1111 recommends a USB type WiFi adapter, I personally prefer internal units. I don't think there's really any difference in performance. Internal WiFi adapter cards come in both PCI and PCI-Ex1 flavors. You will need to know what type of expansion slots you have available in your computer to decide which adapter you need/want.
