Hi I have an fx8120
I was running auto tune from the AMD control center and when i came back to my computer it had turned off. I turned the computer back on and heard a pop. All the lights turned on on the MOBO and all fans spun. However i noticed that after about 5 seconds the power supply fan stopped. I do not know if it did this regularly or only know. The pop made me think it was my MOBO ( MSI 750GM-E51) and this was my second of that model. However i bought a new MOBO (970A-G46) and i got the same problem. I have tested everything and I believe i mustve burned my CPU or RAM? I had two sticks of 4gb ddr3 patriot memory amd performance edition. I am hoping it is not the CPU and i have Ram coming in the mail in a couple of days that I will try. Any suggestions as to what it might be?

Kind of sounds like your power supply fried, which could have possibly took out other components, have you tried changing the power supply?

Possible the power supply popped. What have you done to test everything?

I am using a brand new corsair tx 650. The only other supply i have laying around is an old (OLD) 300w psu. I had tried it in my old MOBO and got the same thing, no beeps. I will try it again with the new MOBO i guess. I have tried moving RAM, resetting bios, removing all components (video card hdd dvd drive), and i checked to make sure cpu was seated with heatsink alright.

If the PSU was in the system when it popped(new or not) the PSU is at the top of the list of possibilities. Do know anybody you can borrow one from? Your 300w might work to test with depending on what graphics card you have.

I think that generally a "pop" is a capacitor blowing, I think that would be pretty obvious on the MOBO itself, if you cannot see obvious signs of damage, I would point to the PSU. Although Corsairs are well built units, there are certainly going to be a lemon or two in the bunch.

Look for damaged components, as chugot said. Take out your graphics card and inspect it, too. Try to POST without the graphics card. Unplug everything not absolutely necessary. Sniff for smoke and touch to see if anything has soot or feels terribly hot.

You may also have a short somewhere so make sure there are no loose wires, screws, and nothing looks "welded" recently.

I did take out all the components and graphics card. I can not have graphics with the 300w because I need a six pin connector for my 7770. All I need to hear is the beep for post though. As I said this is not the mobo that it happened in. There are no damaged parts visibly.
