Alright guys I'm looking for some input on my decisions in parts for a PC from scratch. I'm a college kid turning in my Lenovo y480 for the last time and instead of getting another gaming laptop I have decided to build myself a unit to which I'll remotely access via a more portable tab. And when I go home I wanna have that device be capable of handling intensive games even if on lower than perfect settings. From owning my laptop I've made some expectations out of hardware that might throw the budget over. My budget is about what I spent on my laptop, $1000, and with it I've made these decisions so far from articles and reviews.

Graphics Card (at least 2GB preferably gddr5)
Radeon HD 7850 2gb $185

Processor (Quad-core for college-level computer programming, I heard the 3770k can be found for near this price not haven't seen it)
I5 3570k $220

Motherboard (I'm inexperienced with motherboards so I'm looking for a decision between these two or a likely competitor)
Asus p8z77-I $185
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131840&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-_-pla-_-Intel+Motherboards-_-N82E16813131840&gclid=CNn60oilq7YCFYid4Aodyx0A2A

Asus p8z77-v $130
http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-motherboard-p8z77vlx

Hard Drive (Small but good SSD, for OS and a game or two, with plenty of room for college documents)
Samsung 256g $230 http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009NB8WRU/ref=asc_df_B009NB8WRU2453906?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=pg-465-34-20&linkCode=asn&creative=395097&creativeASIN=B009NB8WRU

RAM (8gb)
To me RAM is RAM, I only think I need 8gb and just might pick up Corsair at best buy

PSU (600+ is what I believe the system needs, also I'd prefer a quiet unit for games)
Modstream Pro 600W
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341017

Frame (Still debating between a regular tower or something smaller, closer to steambox size, making it easy to transport and place)

Monitor (Already own)

My college supplies OS's so I have no worries there. I intend to go with Windows 7 since 8 doesn't appeal. I know I'm leaving a big amount here to ambiguity, but I'm hoping with more research and the help of this post I'll have what I need.

Solution
OH... one more thing

VGA card can be beaten very easily by GTX650ti and will be cheaper also

get this :
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130910

and it'll make you happier w/gaming experience than 7850

AND PSU.... quality is the most important thing so you should get seasonic for best quality

get this :
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151096

and you already don't need more than 400w for VGA so 620w is plenty for you ... and again QUALITY is a delight

ok , every thing looks great but here r some recommendations :

1- the motherboard Asus p8z77-v(130$) is the winner since it supports 4xDIMM 32gb of ram makes it very easy to upgrade in the future

2- As far as RAM goes : get dual kit (2x8) to get best performance and avoid bottlenecks in addition to that make sure that ram is CL9 not higher and 1600speed because your processor originally doesn't support higher speed (1866...etc)

3-As for the case : get the mid-tower for comfort space

Best wishes

The first motherboard you listed is a ITX size. It is a great motherboard, regardless.
You could put it into a small box for easy transportation.
I might suggest the lian li PC-Q08 It is aluminum and holds a standard psu and a full length graphics card.
Perhaps the only negative is the 110mm limit on cpu cooler, so you should expect only a modest overclock.

At the other end of the spectrum, you listed a full atx motherboard.
I might suggest a M-atx motherboard and a small case like the Silverstone TJ-08E.

If you live near a microcenter, they will sell you a 3570K for $190.

To verify ram compatibility, and get support, check that the maker's ram configurator supports the motherboard you pick.

OCZ has a mixed reputation for psu quality. Pick a good unit from this list : http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/thread/323050.aspx
A 650w unit will loaf a bit and be quiet. Silver/gold rating will also run quieter.
I might look at the Seasonic X650.

Thank you guys. I'll be sure to take this info into account. I have a microcenter in range so I'll be sure to run out there and get ahold of the i7; the trip is worth it. Sorry I could only select one answer but I appreciate the input. If anyone has anything to add I hope this post can help others!

Hey guys another question but specifically on frames. I really wanna go with the atx but the lian li frame (the preferable one) is meant for the itx. I understood that and tried the other recommended frame but it only had usb 2.0 Do you guys have more ideas for a frame for the atx, preferably comparably smaller and usb 3.0?
