Hey guys wondered if you can help me out here.

I have just upgraded my graphics card from a Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 to a gigabyte gtx 650 ti. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigabyte-NVIDIA-GTX650Ti-PCI-E-Graphics/dp/B009KFT1ZG/ref=sr_1_8?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1364070288&sr=1-8

Before the switch I was able to run games like X-com Enemy Unknown/ Resi 6 without any issues. Now my CPU seems to be going crazy and it is struggling to run almost any game i try to play.

This is my system: http://www.amazon.co.uk/AMD-Bulldozer-FX-4170-Quad-4-2GHz/dp/B007G8UPUY/ref=sr_1_4?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1356999386&sr=1-4

I'm not sure what the problem is to be honest and any advice would be welcome.
Thanks much C

Don't move back! You have gotten better performance. Also make sure, that you have installed the latest drivers, that might be an issue, if you have installed the drivers that came with the GPU.

My advice is to upgrade your CPU or overclock your current. The CPU you got has the 'Bulldozer' architecture, which was proven to be bad at gaming sadly. Upgrading to a FX 6300/8320/8350 will increase performance by a lot. The FX 6300 is quite cheap, you should be able to find it at a price range from 120-140$. These CPUs have a reworked bulldozer architecture that will increase performance at the same clock speeds as high as 15% in gaming. The...
It's because your GPU was weak before. When the GPU is weak compared to the CPU, then the GPU will run at a high usage all the time, when doing something graphically demanding, like playing games. When the GPU is struggling like that, then the CPU will sit back and relax, which means it will run at a low usage.

When you switched your GPU, then the seats changed. Now it's your CPU that is weak compared to the GPU, and now it might run at a high usage, while the GPU will run at a low usage.

This is called bottlenecking. When one of the components, won't let the other one run at 100%. That is why people need to get balanced systems, or else they won't get full potential out of their hardware.

The CPUs I named also have more cores, than your current CPU, which also will help a lot in gaming as more games have becomen multi-threaded. :)

Ah fair enough. well thank you very much and i will go see about upgrading some more :)

Yes. Both CPUs fit in AM3+ socket. Good luck, mate. And feel free to ask me personally if you got more questions or encounter problems. I mostly answer PC questions on my youtube channel, so head there and ask, or just send a message here on Tomshardware. However I don't check messages so often on Tomshardware.
