Couple of moths ago i built my PC. i bought some Kingston hyper X genesis for my memory. which is sold as 1600 Mhz. How ever in my bios it said that it runs at 1333 mhz. i tried to fix it by overclocking and changing the profile to xmp. (which overclokcs the cpu and Ram) how ever i turned it off as my cpu temps kept on rising. so i did some overclocking and i want to make sure with you guys i did everything correctly to make it run at 1600 Mhz

Well not quite. It is DDR3 (Double Data Rate version 3) memory so it is running at 800Mhz base speed or 1600Mhz effective speed. It is dual channel so you get 2 channels of ram at that speed which allows to have roughly double the bandwidth of just on channel or sick of memory. Some cpu's support just 1 channel others 2, some 3 channels and some even 4 channels which help in the bandwidth department but not in the latency (time it takes for the computer to send for data and get it back) of the ram's performance. Hope this makes things clearer for you. If not look it up on wikipedia..

Depending on your motherboard and processor when you install 1600mhz ram it will default to 1333mhz even though it's rated at 1600mhz. Selecting the XMP Profile will set the rams MHz to it's rated speed. Doing so should not cause the processor to heat up and if it did it shouldn't have changed by more then a few degrees. I would nave made the change and then let the cpu settle down and see what the temps are after a few min.
Can you explain a little more in detail what took place when you enabled the XMP Profile and then you said you unselected it and did some overclocking.
