Drive won't see my documents

I have a drive I took out of a laptop that died. The drive works fine.

Under me as the user it shows photos and music folder complete.

The problem is the documents folder only shows one other folder when there are many.

I see by the amount of used space on the drive the data must still be there.

When I tried to open that folder initially windows re-indexed it.

I checked the properties and have show all files and no hidden files.

It is not set to read only.

It just does not show most all of the data that was in the documents folder.

I have one suggestion for retrieving that data: download a copy of a Linux distro like Ubuntu and boot from it. Most linux disks like Ubuntu disks have a "live CD" mode which lets you run the OS in a demo mode directly from the DVD drive without installing it to disk. Ubuntu will recognize the Windows file system, so it will see the data on the drive. If that data in the Documents folder is still there and OK Linux should see it and let you copy it.

As to what exact bug Windows has up it's rear, I can't tell you.

Good luck.
