I know it's an old socket, so I presume now any answer is definitive. Google is hard to get any answer within the past 2 years!

What is it then? X4 975(or 980) or is the 1100t better?

Or another I've misread?

Basically I'm just trying to get the most out of my old system and everything else has been upgraded :)

If I were you, I'd upgrade to a good quality motherboard first. Then get a new CPU, when you can.

Yes, as tenaciousk said, give us your system info...

Edit: hmm...it's a prebuilt? What's your upgrade budget?

Currently available usually X4 965BE. It will overclock close to 4GHz with aftermarket air cooler.

Yes it was prebuilt when I bought it.

I didn't have a specific budget in mind, just figured the age of the socket would limit the budget? I guess around £70-80 just from what I've seen.

Motherboard info is important since not all support above 95watt CPU´s.

Hi :)

The best of The Phenoms was the 1100T (A true six core and very very fast) ..I still run them with my 7990 (£760)

If you can find one, buy it but they tend to go for a Lot of dosh...

All the best Brett :)

I can not find any information on your motherboard, yes the phenom II x4 965 is good, but it is also 125 watts. and something makes me doubt your motherboard will support it.

Hi :)

The 1100T is also 125 watts...

Hmmm, I did not realise this would be a limiting factor!

How very disappointing!

If Acer did not make your system with 125watt CPU then it is very unlikely that it will work with anything more than 95watt tdp.

Hi :)

If the board is what I remember it wont run any 125 cpu...and also wont allow overclocking either....

Acer made a range of them a few years ago, and although they worked OK, they were never intended for upgrading or overclocking...

Sorry....

All the best Brett :)

Ah well, appreciate all the help.

I suspect my 2.6ghz tri core may bottleneck my 660Ti LOL.

Hi :)

Two choices really...

1, DOWNGRADE your graphics card lol (joke)

2, New motherboard/cpu time....

All the best Brett :)

Well option one would be cheaper!

I believe there is a X4 960 95 @ 3.0Ghz for £65. Would this be a worthwhile upgrade from a X3 710 @ 2.6Ghz?

Just looking into a a new board & cpu is comfortably £250 if not more. Plus I'm not even sure I could fit a motherboard myself?
